Funding Options for Audiology Services

Making Hearing Care Accessible to Everyone

At Hearing Point, we believe everyone deserves access to high-quality hearing care. Thankfully, there are several funding options available in Australia to help cover the costs of hearing assessments, hearing aids and ongoing support.

Australian Government-Funded Support

1. Hearing Services Program (HSP)

HSP provides eligible clients with access to:

Comprehensive hearing assessments
Fully or partially subsidised hearing aids
Annual hearing reviews
Optional annual maintenance agreement covering batteries and repairs, helping to keep your hearing aids in good working condition.

Who is Eligible?

You may be eligible if you are an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or Norfolk Island resident, aged 21 years or older, and one of the following:

A Pensioner Concession Card holder or their spouse
A Veteran Gold Card holder or their spouse
A Veteran White Card holder (for hearing-specific conditions) or their spouse
A member of the Australian Defence Force (ADF), including:
Permanent Navy
Regular Army
Permanent Air Force
Reserves in continuous full-time service
Referred by a Disability Employment Service

2. Medicare

Medicare offers rebates for audiology services upon referral from a medical practitioner, primarily for diagnostic tests.

Clients generally need a referral from a medical practitioner (such as GP, ENT Specialist, Neurologist) to access Medicare rebates for audiology services. It's important to note that not all audiology services are claimable under Medicare.

3. GP Care Plan (for chronic ear conditions)

Your GP can refer for audiology services as part of your care plan. It's important to note that not all audiology services are claimable under this section.

4. Private Health Insurance

Few private health funds can provide rebate towards your hearing aids. Please check your health fund for cover limit as each fund is unique.

*Medicare rebate may be available with a valid doctor's referral, subject to the specific test requested. For hearing assessments billed under MBS item numbers 82315 and 82324, the standard rebate is $54.95. Patients are required to only pay the gap.
